Gimundo, a website and daily newsletter dedicated to good news, is our flagship site, reaching as many as 400,000 readers each month.

In 2007, Hawkins Multimedia was contracted to manage editorial production for a “good news” focused website and daily newsletter, Gimundo.com, owned by Los Angeles-based startup, Gimundo LLC. Under our control, the audience grew to more than 10,000 newsletter subscribers and over 100,000 monthly website visitors, and we managed a content syndication partnership with Maxwell House to provide content for their "Brew Some Good" marketing campaign. Although the start-up folded in 2008, we purchased the assets of Gimundo.com and have been running the site independently ever since.

When we purchased the site, the content was stored in a custom content management system that was not included as part of the sale–meaning we would be left with the task of reassembling a website with over a thousand pages of content from a tangled mess of database tables. A lot of the pages on Gimundo had extensive backlinks on the web which would have been devastating to lose, so downtime was not an option while we worked on relaunching the site. We were able to negotiate a small window–18 days, to have the site remain online on the previous owners servers while we did the work on our end.

This ended up being possibly the most ambitious project undertaken by Hawkins Multimedia to date, which involved a complete new design for the site, creating the content structure and data migration into ExpressionEngine, and create the URL rewrites on the server to preserve the valuable backlinks–all in under 3 weeks.

Running a popular website like Gimundo has proven to be an incredibly valuable learning tool for us, and has given us many insights into the web industry that we enjoy sharing with our clients to make their projects a success.
